Meet Leslie, New Brand Director

We are excited to announce that we have a new Brand Director, Leslie Cumming! Let’s get to know her:

About Leslie:

As the Brand Director, I’m fortunate to combine my love of knitting, marketing, merchandising, and product development at Knit Picks. I work with a stellar team passionate about all things knitting and making. It truly takes a village! When I’m not at work, you’ll find me exploring the back roads of Oregon on my bike, knitting, pattern drafting my next project, gardening, or spending time with friends and family.

A little Q & A

English or Continental?
Portuguese. I learned to knit English style, but a neck and shoulder surgery in the last decade made it hard to knit for any length of time. In 2019 I retaught myself to knit in the Portuguese style, with a knitting pin, and love it!

Sweaters or Shawls?
Sweaters. Though lately, I’ve been tempted to knit some of the more oversized, colorful shawl patterns we have and that friends are knitting.

Cables or Lace?
Both. Cables are my first love. About a decade ago, I discovered a cable/lace stitch book and now go back and forth between them. I also love Guernsey patterning and anything that plays with the knit, purl stitch. It’s safe to say, I’m a texture junky.

DPNs or Magic Loop?
I’m old school. I learned on DPNs and always revert back to them. I love the Magic Loop, but my muscle memory gets a bit tangled when I try to use it.

Socks: Toe Up or Top Down?
I have to admit, I’m not a sock knitter. Given the number of single socks I knit years ago, it’s safe to say, I don’t think I ever will be.

Needles: Wood or Metal?
Both. I love the feel and warmth of wood when I knit for hours. They’re my go-to. I switch to metal for bigger, bulkier yarns; it’s less stressful on my neck and makes for a smoother knit.

Wool, Cotton, Acrylic, Alpaca, Cashmere, or Silk?
Wool then Cashmere. I love the variations and types of wool from around the world and the textures one can create. And, who doesn’t love a gorgeous cashmere?
