Tweed Yarn Sale!

Tweed Yarn Sale from Knit Picks

Oh happy day! Starting today and going through January 23, we are having a Tweed Yarn Sale where you can save up to 30% off all of our tweedy yarns. I am a huge fan of these yarns–in fact, I’ve had 2 big sweater projects in them in recent months–so I thought I’d run through each of them and show off a few project and pattern ideas.

First of all, my very favorite tweed yarn is the gorgeous Woodland Tweed. This is our newest one, and while it’s only available in undyed, it’s a lovely yarn that everyone should try. With a mix of baby alpaca and merino, this Aran weight yarn is so soft and such a pleasure to knit with. It is next-to-skin soft and super warm (hello alpaca!), so it’s great for hats and cowls as well as sweaters. I’ve just finished a fabulous sweater in it (my first in over a year), and I just want to live in it during these cold winter months. The pattern is Mr. Postman by the wonderful Kristen Jancuk.

Another more recent addition to our lineup is Provincial Tweed; it’s only been available for a year, but it is a huge favorite with staff and customers alike. With bright colors and neutral neps, this soft yarn is great for next-to-skin accessories, but it really shines in garments! It’s also superwash, which is great for folks who may not be able to handwash those fabulous knit projects and for kiddo projects. My current project on the needles is my version of the Straight & Arrow Cardigan in the Lake Shore colorway, and it looks amazing. Another pattern that really shows off this yarn is the Tweedy Jumper–check out those gorgeous cables!

Stroll Tweed has been around in a couple of versions for a very long time, but it remains a super popular yarn, especially for socks. This is especially wonderful for those who want to make something more interesting than solid color yarn socks but don’t necessarily want to work with a multicolored yarn–the rich colors of Stroll Tweed with neutral neps are prefect for “business wear” projects. This is also great for those who prefer to use lighter weight yarn for garments and accessories–one of my favorite projects I’ve knit is the Piney Tweed Hat.

Our original tweed yarn is both weights of City Tweed. I still remember when this yarn came out, well before I started working here! I fell in love and knit so many projects in it, both garments and accessories. This is a true luxury yarn, a mix of Merino and Superfine Alpaca (more alpaca than Woodland) and while alpaca yarns tend to irritate my skin, I’ve never had that problem with either weight of City Tweed. It’s also great for colorwork, like the Perennial Beret–and the pattern is free!

Finally, we have our Wool of the Andes Tweed, a true classic tweed yarn. This is a fabulous workhorse yarn that works fantastic in cables and colorwork and gives visual interest to the most basic sweater pattern, not to mention an inexpensive yarn to for classic hats, scarves, and mittens. We love to use this yarn in giant cable wraps–it creates a super warm project but at a lower price point. The Laura Shawl is good example, as is the Inis Meain wrap in our brand new Crossings collection.

The Tweed Yarn Sale runs until January 23, so don’t miss your chance at savings on these wonderful yarns!
