Here at LoveKnitting HQ, we are forever inspired by knitwear designers and their patterns. This month, we focus on three fabulously talented designers: Andrew Mowry, Kristen Kapur and Francoise Danoy…
If you love modern, wearable knitwear, you will adore Andrea Mowry’s fabulous patterns. Using new techniques and skills, Andrea creates garments and accessories that just call out to be worn – and her now legendary ‘fade’ patterns using ombre colour techniques are on every knitter’s must-knit list. You can read more about Andrea’s design processes on her blog DreaReeneeKnits.
The Weekender is a sweater that you’ll absolutely live in – dropped shoulder, faux seams, gorgeous boat neckline with feature rib and lots of positive ease – it’s perfect for all body shapes. Knitted in worsted weight yarn, this is a sweater to knit over and over again in different yarns – Andrea was inspired by marl shades, but this will work beautifully in so many different colours and textures!
Designer of our current KAL, the Manhattan Mist Shawl, Kirsten is well known for her fabulous pattern collection of knitwear and accessories, using glorious combinations of construction elements and different types of fibres. She’s a designer for knitters who adore exploration – from basic shaping and making simple stitches glow, to complex, unexpected colour work and exquisite creativity. You can read more about Kirsten’s inspiration on her blog at KirstenKapurDesigns.
Manhattan Mist is a fabulous voyage of discovery, exploring colour work using the mosaic technique, simple shaping and three different textured yarns – a fine mohair, a hand painted yarn, and one solid shade. The Manhattan Mist KAL uses stunning Koigu Painters Palette Premium Merino. Willow & Lark Plume and The Fibre Company Canopy Fingering (colour pack available here). Kirsten has created some fantastic videos to accompany the KAL for this pattern, to illustrate tips for working shaping, stripes and mosaic. You can find more details about the KAL here.
Françoise Danoy from ArohaKnits (or as she prefers to be called, Frenchie!), brings together influences from France, Australia, New Zealand and America to her designs and creates knitwear and accessories that just burst with life! From zingy cowls to stunningly modern tees, Frenchie’s designs are full of techniques to keep you absolutely engaged from cast on to cast off, as well as knitting a garment you will love to wear!
A perfect tee for a change of seasons – Francoise Danoy’s Whakamarie Top can be knitted flat or in the round, and lengthened if required. The cable and lace panel brings a focused texture with waist shaping and i-cord finishing at the hem and around the sleeves. Knit in your favourite aran/worsted weight yarn – something with a good twist to show off those cables and lace motifs. We love Malabrigo Rios, or Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran – but you could also knit this fabulous top in a cotton blend for warm weather, like Austermann Whisper or Stylecraft Jeanie.
