This weekend, it finally felt like spring is coming to the Pacific Northwest (sorry East Coast). With sunshine and warmer weather, all of us here at Knit Picks start leaving home the heavy wools and get an itch to start a something in lighter weight yarns. Need ideas? Here are a few of our newest free patterns to tempt you.
The beautiful Candle Flame Shawl isn’t exactly new – it’s been bouncing around our site for several years. But we decided to give it a makeover with luscious Luminance Hand Painted yarn to show off the gorgeous lace pattern. This is perfect project if you have a couple of hanks of a special yarn like Luminance – the 100% silk looks wonderful in the peacock motif. The pattern is also both written and charted, so anyone with a hankering for a pretty new shawl can tackle it.
If lace yarn isn’t your thing, cotton is excellent for spring and summer projects. Not only to we have nearly 200 free dishcloth patterns on the site, we have a couple of new fabulous patterns by the talented Emily Kintigh. First is the fun Slip Stitch Coasters – a great way to practice some easy color work. Using 2 colors of Dishie each, the design is created by slip stitches – and makes a coaster thick enough for both hot and cold drinks. Get ready for summer entertaining by choosing your favorite colors and whip up a couple to protect your surfaces from frosty beverages.
Springtime for me means lots of farmer market visits and what better way to carry my groceries than this sweet Market Bag. The mesh pattern stretches so I can fit all my produce in there (excuse to buy more!) and the straps are double strength and securely attached so I won’t have to worry about it breaking. And since it’s also in Dishie, when it gets dirty, it’s super easy to just pop in the washer. I think a couple of these will set me up nicely for the spring & summer this year!
These are a few of our favorite warm weather patterns – what will you be working on this year? Happy Spring! (a little early!)
