#KnitForJacinda Unites New Zealand’s Crafters!

LoveKnitting |

When New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern told the world about her pregnancy, she didn’t know it would inspire so many people to use their crafting to help others – but that’s exactly what happened!

It all started with two tweets from Twitter user Heather McCracken. When she heard about PM Jacinda Ardern’s pregnancy, her first instinct was to knit a lovely present for the baby! But she quickly realised that while Jacinda’s child will probably receive lots of great presents from friends and family, other children might not be so lucky.

So I woke up this morning feeling like ‘I want to knit for Jacinda’s pēpi WHO’S WITH ME’

But then I thought her baby will prob get loads of lovely things, and many other bubs are in need of warm clothes and hats and booties to go home from hospital.

SO, I thought maybe it would be cool to knit for other babies in honor of Jacinda’s wee one, and donate them to the Kidz First wool program: https://t.co/B2yzzRzrrU

And so the idea was born, to knit amazing things for less fortunate babies – all in PM Jacinda Ardern’s name! Other New Zealand moms and crafters seemed to wholeheartedly agree and soon joined the movement under the hashtag #KnitForJacinda.

I will now learn how to #knit and crochet so I can support this worthy project! Because I too am a Mum, and I know how much kindness means. #KnitForJacinda #knitting #knittersofinstagram #crocheting #LifeGoals #BeKind

People wasted no time to start crafting and not only did the hashtag inspire people to try their hand at knitting for the first time, but fellow politicians have also joined in! MP Deborah Russell for example tweeted a photo of her tiny hat project.

And underway with another tiny hat. #KnitForJacinda pic.twitter.com/TZ1x4erR13

Don’t worry! Even if you don’t live in New Zealand you can still join the movement.
