World Kindness Day is a global movement reminding us that, in the wise words of Aesop, ‘No act of kindness however small is wasted’!
From London to Singapore, World Kindness Day is a fabulous opportunity to put love back in the front seat through social outreach and acts of service in our local communities.
We’ve always been inspired by the LoveKnitting community’s generosity and kindness when it comes to charity and making a difference! Whether it’s supporting the furry residents of Battersea Dog and Cats Home or participating in Haven’s Big Tea Cosy to raise money to support those with breast cancer.
If you’re looking for some inspiration for this year’s World Kindness Day, here are some of our favorite patterns:
Preemie Baby Hats
Preemie baby hats are designed to keep premature babies warm and cozy. This beautiful design by Bernat features the gentle Bernat Softee Baby, perfect for tiny bubs and available in the sweetest pastel shades!
This is an excellent project for beginners and can be donated straight to hospitals or gifted to a family with a preemie baby.
Battersea Dogs and Cats Patterns
For the animal lovers, 100% of proceeds from our Battersea patterns go straight to this wonderful animal charity, which houses many orphaned cats and pooches and help them find their forever home! From cute soft toys, to blankets and pillows, browse these beautiful knitting patterns each inspired by real life animals and join our #StitchFurBattersea campaign.
This gorgeous Ray Blanket was designed by Vikki Bird, inspired by a real life kitty who came to the shelter blind, after being abandoned outside a London veterinary practice. At 12 months, after a little love and care, this brave little kitten found a loving home thanks to Battersea. Now you can be a part of the story by contributing to this amazing charity!
Twiddlemuffs are a fantastic gift for those who might suffer from dementia or Alzheimers. Knitted tubes that are full of comfort with lots of texture and colors. Twiddlemuffs have been proven to have a calming effect on patients keeping hands and minds occupied. Why not donate to your local hospital or gift to someone in your world?
Why not participate in a random act of kindness with this gorgeous little kindness monster! Perfect for intermediate knitters who want to pay it forward, this little guy is the adorable brain child of independent designer Rachel B that’s sure to put a smile on anyone’s face! This sweet toy can be made with scraps from your stash and can be given to… well, anyone!
In the words of Rachel herself: ‘I don’t think anyone ever wished they hadn’t spent so much time on being kind’! We agree!
If your heart breaks for those who are having to face a cold winter without a home, why not knit for your local homeless charity? With so many hat and scarf patterns available on our site, for all knitting abilities, it’s never been a better time to knit up a cozy wrap or beanie for those in need.
Greenlight London recently launched their #NakedSheepCampaign, calling for knitters to donate their craftwork, which they will distribute to the city’s homeless.
This free ribbed knit hat pattern from Caron is both cozy and warm making a thoughtful and caring gift for someone in need.
We hope you’ve been inspired as much as we were by these wonderful projects! We’d love to know how you’re getting involved with World Kindness Day and the campaigns you’re supporting.
