Hurricane Harvey – How You Can Help

“The devastation from Hurricane Harvey has been weighing heavy on our hearts and minds here at LoveKnitting. Tens of thousands of people are without homes, food, or clothing, and they need our help. If there’s one thing we’ve learned over our five years, it’s that our community is great at helping those in need. We are leading by example and donating 100% of all US profits to the Houston Food Bank for the entire month of September.” – Edward Griffith, CEO LoveKnitting

How can you help?

Troubled times like these often bring out the best in people, and while we all want to help those who have been affected by this terrible hurricane, it can be confusing figuring where to send donations.

Purchase a Pattern

We’ve decided to donate 100% of the sales of these two blanket patterns to the Houston Food Bank. Each pattern that we sell, will provide 15 people with a meal. And being that they’re both blankets (one knitting, and one crochet), if you’re in the US you could actually donate the blanket when you’ve completed it.

Give Money to These Charities:

In the wake of any catastrophe there are bound to be many charities that pop up out of nowhere. Some maybe be scams, while others might have good intentions but without the means of getting donations to the people who need them. Charity Navigator is a great tool if you’d like to find out more about these or other charities and how trustworthy they are. Here is a small list of charities that are trusted and proven to provide real help to those that need it:

Houston Food Bank

Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals

Food Bank of Corpus Christi

Save the Children

Coalition for the Homeless

Donate Clothing and Blankets to These Shelters:

If you live in the US you can send clothing or blankets to the shelters listed on the Texas Government’s website. Make sure to contact the shelter before sending anything to ensure they are accepting physical donations. If you live outside of the US, your clothing or blankets might get caught up in customs, so monetary donations would better serve the community.
