Barbara Lowe might be 90 years old, but she shows no signs of slowing down on her knitting!
Ms. Lowe has made 2,252 hand-knit hats for the newborns of Hillcrest Hospital in Ohio since 2009 according to ABC News. That’s a lot of warm babies she’s helped! How amazing it must be for her to think of all those newborns going home with one of her hats! She uses baby yarns exclusively, which she says “is a finer, nicer yarn.” We agree!
She chooses wonderful soft shades such as yellow, blue, pink, and green, and she attaches a removable flower to each hat as well.
She told ABC news, “It’s my therapy. When you’re 90, you’ve got aches and pains. You don’t want to think about it. Well, you’re not thinking about it if you’re concentrating on what you’re doing.”
“When you’re on this earth, you only have a limited time and you want to leave something behind when you leave,” she added. Well I think it’s fair to say that she has left a pretty good amount of memories for a lot of happy babies and parents. Hats off to you Ms. Lowe. (Pun intended)!
