It’s really cold outside, and Merion has found you a chunky jumper to keep you warm!
There are times when only a chunky jumper will do! Apart from being warm to wear, a chunky jumper is fun to knit – it’s fast, and chunky yarns bring fantastic stitch definition, which is why they work so well with cables, textured stitches and even a simple knit and purl.
I have been looking for a quick, chunky knit that I can wear as soon as it’s off the needles – and I’ve found it! This gorgeous boat neck chevron pattern knit is a great length and has slightly shorter sleeves (which suits my shorter arms!) – but of course you can lengthen the hem and sleeves if you’d rather they were longer!
The pattern is fantastic for new knitters who are keen to tackle something more adventurous – it’s a knit and purl repeat that is worked from an easy to follow chart – and the construction is very simple: front and back are exactly the same, and the sleeves have minimal shaping, giving the sweater the boxy fashionable shape that is so modern and popular! (Take note any grandmothers, your granddaughters will love this jumper!) It comes in three sizes, S, M and L, and is written in both English and German.
When you work the chart, you’ll notice that only the right side is shown – this is because when you work back along the wrong side, you just follow what you did on the row before, mirroring the stitches.
A chunky jumper needs to keep you warm, so the yarn is so important! Lamana Nazca is a blend of merino wool and alpaca, with a shot of nylon to help keep your knitwear in good shape. It’s machine washable (dry flat), and comes in a fantastic range of shades that have a slight halo thanks to the gorgeously soft alpaca!
The jumper above is knitted in Chilli (015), a real red – and I love the Maigruen (019) and Pink (017) too! The gorgeous Pflaume (031) is the most fantastic purple with a hint of heather!
From left to right, gorgeously muted jewels Pink, Maigruen and Pflaume!
This gorgeous sweater knits on 8mm needles – and because you’re going to have a whole front or back, you’ll need fairly long needles or a circular needle, whichever you prefer. I love bamboo needles, so these Addi 35cm Bamboo (14″) 8mm needles are perfect.
Don’t forget, we’d love to see your chunky jumpers on our Community!
