Why not get ready for your summer knitting with some nifty denim yarn? We love the trend for denim shades and patterns – Merion’s here to show you the best of them!
Working with denim yarns, or denim shades of yarn is thrilling the crafting world lately, with knitters making classic garments that will last for years! As far back as I can remember, Rowan was one of the first yarn houses to produce a denim yarn – and Rowan Original Denim is still a hugely popular yarn, with some fantastic patterns to match! I love the classic denim jacket pattern above, but just look at this clever sweater – it has deliberate pulls and “rips” to make it look like a pair of jeans!
Rowan Original Denim is 100% cotton and comes in two shades – Vintage and Black. Although this beauty is listed as a DK, it knits up more as an aran weight yarn, which is why you’ll see the patterns listed as aran weight. I love this Braveheart jumper, with its whimsical nod to smocking – perfect for a change of seasons pullover!
Debbie Bliss has a whole booklet of patterns dedicated to the gorgeous Debbie Bliss Cotton Denim DK, which comes in a delightful range of denim inspired shades, from classic blues to Rose, Mint, Peach and Banana!
If you prefer a sport weight denim, Schachenmayr Catania Denim is a gorgeously light cotton knit, in 12 gorgeous shades, and James C Brett Cotton-On Denim is a DK weight cotton and acrylic blend, in six stonewashed style colours.
Denim is a fabulous look for summer too – I love this top from Rowan, combined with some denim fabric for that fabled “double denim” look!
If you’re after just a little dash of denim, you could knit yourself a shawl to wear as a simple scarf! I love Gumdrop, by JumperCables – you can knit it in DK or worsted weight yarn, and it would work up beautifully well in a soft cotton denim!
We’d love to see your denim knits! Share them with us in the Community!
